BYHALIA, Miss. — WREG is learning more about a police chase that started in Marshall County and ended in DeSoto County.
The witness who took the video, Joseph Bloodgood, says this all started yesterday when the driver sped through a red light at Highway 309.
Bloodgood tells WREG that the driver then ran into the Byhalia, Mississippi, post office and hit a car, which resulted in a chase.
WREG learned that Mississippi Game Wardens conducted the pursuit. That pursuit then went from Byhalia, to about six miles away, near Olive Branch.
When the chase got into DeSoto County, Bloodgood says the Olive Branch Police Department assisted.
“When he had jumped across traffic, jumped the curb, hit another vehicle head-on. The camper flopped off in the middle, came apart, came off the truck. And he took off,” said Bloodgood.
He says Olive Branch officers got involved in the pursuit, and they arrested the man they were chasing. However, Bloodgood thinks the incident should have been handled differently.
“The police should have put him in a ditch immediately. As soon as they saw that he was a threat, at the red light, when he hit the first vehicle head-on,” said Bloodgood.
He said he is grateful no one was injured
WREG reached out to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks for a police report and more information; however, we were transferred to the legal department and no one answered.
We’re working to get additional details about this chase.
