Vicksburg officer injured in crash after being forced off road: police

VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – A Vicksburg police officer was injured during a crash after authorities said he was forced off the road.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Highway 61 North shortly after 12:30 a.m. on June 26.

Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones said Officer Jeremy Herrington was forced off the roadway by another vehicle, causing his patrol unit to leave the highway and strike a tree. He sustained injuries and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for treatment. Herrington is in stable condition.

The crash is under investigation.

“We ask the community to keep Officer Herrington in their thoughts and prayers as we hope for his full and speedy recovery,” said Jones.
