JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – In less than a week, the capital city will have a new mayor. State Senator John Horhn will take office on July 1.
Many Jackson residents said they want to see results after years of struggle. They want the new administration to focus on crime, infrastructure, blight, economic development and entertainment options for the city.
“I would like to see more restaurants, more entertainment. I’ve compared this to Little Rock and places in Florida, and I just feel that we’re really far behind,” said one resident.
“To see the streets change, cleaner, and these abandoned buildings tore down, and he can start at that,” said another resident.
Most residents agreed that they want Horhn to follow through on his campaign promises and continue the work of restoring Jackson.
