The city needs help with cleaning up blight, trash and potholes.
“I think we’ve been doing the repair work all wrong, and we haven’t been doing it expeditiously,” the mayor said.
Jackson City Council Vice President Vernon Hartley, Ward 5, agreed with Horhn.
“I agree that we have to be more efficient in our processes. People want to look out their kitchen window and see a difference,” Hartley said.
Horhn asked Jackson residents for patience while the city’s finances from 2023 and 2024 go through an auditing process before they can apply for federal grants.
“We’ve got to put ourselves in a position where we can be helped. And that’s why the audits are so important,” he said.
In the meantime, Horhn said there are numerous resources at the county, state and federal level who want to help. He wants to start in South Jackson and that specific locations would be determined based on available funding.
