LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — General Electric Appliances (GE) is making a significant domestic investment, creating hundreds of new jobs and a future of high-quality, built-to-last appliances for the Commonwealth.
State leaders announced in a news release on June 26 that GE will invest $490 million and create 800 full-time jobs in one of the largest private-sector projects for the state since the beginning of Gov. Beshear’s administration.
With the investment, officials announced that laundry appliance production would be coming to Louisville’s Appliance Park.
Kevin Nolan, CEO and president of GE Appliances, said the move was part of a “zero-distance” business strategy aimed at bringing products closer to customers.
The building that will house the new production lines will be redesigned to prominently feature “autonomous mobile robots” and other material-handling technologies, per a news release.
Beshear announced the partnership along with his “New Kentucky Home” initiative, with the goal of increasing economic investment, attracting talent, and increasing tourism across the state.
“Today’s announcement brings more appliance manufacturing back to the United States and solidifies Kentucky and Louisville as the global headquarters of GE Appliances,” Beshear said. “GE Appliances is one of Kentucky’s most important companies and signature brands, and we are excited about this additional commitment.”
