HUNDRED, W.Va. — A head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on Route 7 near Dump Hill left two people dead and two others injured. The crash drew a multi-agency response from three West Virginia counties and one Pennsylvania county.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 1:53 p.m. to the scene on Mountaineer Highway, just outside Hundred in the direction of New Martinsville. Investigators said one vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on.
The driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line died at the scene. A passenger from the second vehicle died while being taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. The driver and another passenger in the second vehicle were hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Hundred EMS, Hundred Volunteer Fire Department, New Freeport (Pa.) Fire Department, Wileyville Fire Department, Marshall County EMS, and Marion County Rescue all responded, along with off-duty personnel from Hundred Police Department and Wetzel County EMS. The Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police were also involved.
Although state police were called in from Marion County to conduct an accident reconstruction, a trooper at the scene determined a full reconstruction was not necessary to identify the cause. The Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
Route 7 was closed from approximately 2 p.m. and reopened just before 7 p.m.
Mayor Chip Goff of Hundred extended his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked the emergency responders for their quick and coordinated efforts. Names of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family. Further updates are expected Thursday.
