ELGIN, Ill. (WGN) — A suspect is now in police custody after several people were shot during a family gathering in unincorporated Elgin this past weekend.
Jeremy Holt, 26, of Schaumburg, faces felony charges of attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed violence, aggravated battery by strangulation, and mob action following the events of Sunday, June 22.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office said Holt admitted to firing the weapon that wounded three victims in the 8N500 block of Gingerwood Lane.
WGN News reported that a gathering with several family members and acquaintances turned physical. Despite the dispute beginning outside, authorities say the altercation eventually moved to inside the home and continued before shots rang.
A 70-year-old man, a 36-year-old man, and a 21-year-old woman suffered gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed the victims to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Holt is due in court on Wednesday. Deputies in Kane County did not provide a booking photo.
