FOX LAKE, Ill. — Emergency crews are conducting a search on Fox Lake amid the search for the body of a missing 25-year-old man who officers say had recently informed friends that he was in emotional distress.

According to Fox Lake Police, a search is underway for 25-year-old Destin Peter, who officers fear may have jumped into Mineola Bay in Fox Lake overnight.

Officers said friends of the missing man had recently received text messages from him indicating that he was emotionally distressed and possibly heading towards the water, though it is unclear if anyone saw him go into the water.

Following the report, crews with the Fox Lake Police Department, along with the Fox Lake Fire Protection District and the Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Division, began an extensive search on the water and the shoreline, but there were still no signs of the missing man by around 7 a.m.

In an update shared early Tuesday morning, Fox Lake Battalion Chief Ted Damos said Destin’s clothes had been located near the shoreline during their search.

Crews are now considering the search a recovery effort.

A search and rescue K9 and Drone Strike Team are now aiding in the search for Destin.

Officers ask anyone with information on Destin’s whereabouts to contact the Fox Lake Police Department at 847-587-3100.
