(KRON) – A record that was released more than a quarter of a century ago has inspired a new arena tour that is headed to the Bay Area.
R&B royalty Brandy and Monica released “The Boy Is Mine” in 1998. The single earned the songstresses their only Grammy, which was the best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocals. Despite years of rumored feuds, the song hogged the top Billboard spot for 13 consecutive weeks.
The duo participated in the 2020 web series Verzuz, where two artists competed to see who had the more impactful catalog. According to Billboard, the R&B divas episode had more than 1.2 million views from just Instagram.
The buzz around “The Boy is Mine” resurfaced after Ariana Grande released her rendition last year. Brandy and Monica had a clever cameo in Grande’s music video.
“The Boy Is Mine Tour” is coming to the East Bay at the Oakland Arena on Nov. 8. The following day, the tour will travel to Los Angeles and perform at the Kia Forum.
Grammy Award-winning singers Kelly Rowland and Muni Long are reported to be special guests on the tour. The newest American Idol winner, Jamal Roberts, will also be a guest.
Presale tickets will be available on Wednesday at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster’s website.
