Suspect arrested in 2020 murder of Lawtell doctor

LAWTELL, La. (KLFY) — A man wanted in connection with the murder of a Lawtell man in 2020 has been arrested, authorities said.

Desmond Demond Richard, 34, of Opelousas, is charged with the second degree murder of Dr. Joseph Vallian on Sept. 16, 2020.

The victim’s father, Leeland Bryce Valliere, of Carencro, and three others were previously arrested in connection with the crime.

Vallian’s body was discovered after an investigation into an incident in the 400 block of McClellan Street. An autopsy showed Vallian’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma.

Richard was arrested Monday morning and is being held in the St. Landry Parish Jail. Bond details were not released.
