INDIANAPOLIS – Multiple interstate construction projects mean drivers will have to pay extra attention, especially during the overnight hours.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said the work ranges from pavement markings to overhead signage placement and drainage improvements along stretches of I-465, I-70 and I-65 in different parts of the city.
On the north side, crews will place permanent pavement markings along parts of I-465.
To accomplish that, INDOT mandated the following closures:
Additional work this week means overnight restrictions affecting I-465 ramps, local roads and parts of I-70 on Indy’s east side.
INDOT said crews will perform overhead signage work.
Here’s what to watch for:
A stretch of northbound I-65 will close this weekend as crews work on drainage improvements beneath the interstate.
The work is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 27, and run through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30.
The closures on northbound I-65 extend from the I-65/I-465 interchange to the I-65/I-70 interchange. The following northbound ramps will close as a result:
INDOT recommends I-465 and I-70 for detours. Drivers should watch for signs guiding them along the way.
Beginning on Sunday, June 29, northbound I-65 will be reduced to a single lane between Morris Street and Virginia Avenue.
This restriction will stay in place through the rest of the year as crews build an additional lane along that stretch of the interstate.
Drivers should slow down and use extra caution around work zones. INDOT said all work depends on the weather and is subject to change.
