3 people between ages 19 and 21 killed in head-on car crash early Sunday in South Deering, Chicago police say

CHICAGO — Three people between 19 and 21 years old were killed in a head-on car crash early Sunday morning in South Deering on the city’s Far South Side, according to Chicago police.

Police say the fatal crash happened just after 3 a.m. in the 11200 block of South Stony Island Avenue when a red Dodge Challenger going north and a black Dodge Challenger going south on the same side of the street collided head-on.

A 20-year-old man driving the red car, a 21-year-old man driving the black car and a 19-year-old female passenger in the black car were all pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Additionally, police say a 20-year-old male passenger in the red car was taken to University of Chicago hospital in fair condition.

No other injuries were reported, and Major Accidents is investigating the fatal crash.
