WAYNE COUNTY, Ind — An accident that left one person dead and another injured is currently being investigated by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 1:03 a.m. on Sunday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious crash on Interstate 70 eastbound near the 137-mile marker.
According to a press release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, police found a small passenger vehicle overturned on its roof on the south side of the interstate.
It appeared that the vehicle left the roadway, hit a steep embankment and overturned.
Police said that the driver was identified as a 55-year-old Connie Jones of Richmond.
Evidence suggests she was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger was reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover fully. They said that they were on their way home from work when the vehicle unexpectedly veered right, which resulted in the crash.
Interstate 70 eastbound was closed for approximately three hours while first responders investigated and worked to clear the scene.
