SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – On June 20th, shortly after 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Highland neighborhood in response to several reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers discovered shell casings in several locations on the street and were able to obtain a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
While searching the area, officers heard more gunshots nearby. The officers quickly found the suspect’s vehicle. When the suspects tried to escape, police gave chase.
The car finally stopped after breaking several traffic laws.
The driver, later identified as Varela Jose Manuel, was taken into custody after police say he was exhibiting signs of impairment. The passenger, Eduardo Delaluz, was also taken into custody following a brief struggle with officers.
Multiple guns were located inside the vehicle, and additional evidence was collected at the scene.
Delaluz was arrested and charged with one count of Resisting an Officer and one count of Illegal Use of a Weapon.
Manuel faces charges of Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Illegal Use of a Weapon, DWI (First Offense), and numerous traffic violations.
Chief Wayne Smith commended the officers for their swift and professional actions “These officers did a terrific job removing dangerous individuals from our streets. Violence and reckless behavior will not be tolerated in Shreveport.”
