Livermore boy, 12, arrested for rash of auto burglaries

(KRON) — Police arrested three very young suspects in Livermore in connection to a rash of auto burglaries. A 12-year-old boy, 14-year-old girl, and 15-year-old boy were connected to nearly 50 car break-ins downtown, the Livermore Police Department said.

“Between May 5 to June 3, the Livermore Police Department investigated a series of auto burglaries. All of the burglaries took place during the overnight hours and involved smashed windows, primarily on the front passenger side, to steal miscellaneous items such as USB drives, battery packs, sunglasses, and wallets,” LPD wrote.

Through surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify juveniles allegedly behind the crime spike. When officers searched search warrants were executed at the minor’s Livermore homes, they found and recovered some of the stolen property, according to police.

LPD said the trio may have also committed additional auto burglaries and vehicle thefts prior to May 5.

All three were cited and released to their parents. “Juvenile Hall would not accept the suspects due to the non-violent nature of the offenses,” the police department said.

Police Chief Jeramy Young said, “I want to thank our patrol officers, detectives, and School Resource Officers for their teamwork in identifying those responsible.”

The case has been referred to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Juvenile Probation Department for review and potential charges.
