RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPHL) — Friends and families held a vigil for a 12-year-old girl who died after a car hit the electric scooter she and her best friend were riding in Aston Township.
On Tuesday evening, community members gathered outside Ridley Middle School, where Abigail Gillon used to go to school.
Abigail died Monday after being in the hospital for her injuries. Her best friend, 11-year-old Isabella Jones, remains in the hospital.
Abigail and Isabella were riding an electric scooter when they were hit by a car on Lehr Boulevard near Concord Road Saturday afternoon.
Gillon’s neighbor says Abigail was a special girl, and even after she passed, she is still changing lives.
“This morning, Abigail had her Hero Walk down the halls of DuPont Hospital,” said Briana Newmiller, Gillon’s neighbor. “Through the gift of life, she was able to save another 12-year-old girl’s life by donating her liver, pancreas, and both kidneys.”
Gillon’s family has raised more than $69,000 through GoFundMe to pay for funeral costs. Jones’ family also has a page set up to pay for hospital bills and has raised more than $39,000.
