BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Three Baton Rouge men were arrested after an undercover firearm-trafficking operation turned violent, injuring a federal agent on Tuesday.
According to the Department of Justice, Torion Bobbs, 20, and Cordell Simms, 19, are facing charges of assault on a federal officer and robbery. Caylup Anderson, 18, is charged with robbery and aiding and abetting.
On June 17, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) arranged gun purchases, equipped with a machine gun conversion device, outside of the Triple S Food Mart on N. Foster Drive.
When agents moved to arrest the suspects, gunfire erupted, striking Simms and an agent. All three suspects fled the area before being captured shortly after.
“Our office has zero tolerance for assaults on law enforcement officers,” said Acting U.S.
Attorney Ellison Travis. “When criminals raise a gun at those who protect our communities, we will answer with the full force of federal law. Yesterday’s swift federal charges reflect the seamless
teamwork of the FBI, ATF, the Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s
Office, and the Louisiana State Police. Their rapid, coordinated response ensured these defendants were taken off the streets within hours of the crime.”
