RAPIDES PARISH, La. (WNTZ) — A 22-year-old man from Boyce was killed early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 28, according to Louisiana State Police Troop E.
Authorities say the crash occurred around 5 a.m. on June 18 near Navy’s Way. The victim, identified as Nicholas J. Baqqett, was driving a 2013 Ford Mustang westbound when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a concrete culvert, causing Baqqett to be ejected.
Troopers said restraint usage is unknown. Baqqett sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Although not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury,” State Police said in a statement.
The crash remains under investigation by Troop E.
