MARERRO, La. (WGNO) — An old school building in Marrero caught fire Wednesday, June 18 around noon.
The fire department said they arrived five minutes after getting the call. However, they had to fight the flames outside of the building due to its condition.
Marrero and Harvey Fire Chief Stephen Guidroz said it was difficult seeing century old architecture go up in flames.
“Any time we see a loss in our community, that affects all because we come from there,” Guidroz said. “So, a day like this, it definitely hinders the spirits a little bit. But everybody was safe, the firemen and stuff like that, so that’s a good thing.”
The fire is still under investigation.
