Man sentenced to life in prison for teen’s overdose death in St. Tammany Parish

St. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Covington man was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the Fentanyl overdose death of a teenaged girl.

The District Attorney’s Office said 23-year-old Alvin Laurant Jr. was convicted in May 2025 of second-degree murder.

The DA’s office said first responders were called to Felisia Grantham’s residence where they found a 15-year-old girl lying on her back, showing no signs of life. Attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

Deputies noticed illicit drugs and related paraphernalia in the bedroom. Detectives seized the drugs, which included several blue pills. It was discovered that they contained Fentanyl.

A toxicology analysis of the victim revealed her body contained 13 times the amount of Fentanyl needed to kill a human.

Data obtained from Grantham’s phone revealed text messages between her and Laurant on the day of the victim’s death. Arrangements were made to supply the Fentanyl that ultimately killed the victim.

Grantham was also convicted of second-degree murder December 2024 trial. She was sentenced to life in prison.
