BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A man accused of being involved in the Madison Brooks rape case pleaded not guilty.
On June 12, Casen Carver, 21, of Denham Springs, entered a not guilty plea for the charges of first-degree rape, third-degree rape and video voyeurism.
According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Brooks was reportedly standing in the middle of the road on Burbank Drive before she was hit and killed on Jan. 15, 2023.
An EBRSO investigation showed that Brooks was raped and left to wander a local neighborhood with a blood alcohol limit of .319%.
Further investigation revealed that Brooks left a Tigerland bar in Baton Rouge with Carver, 27-year-old Everett Lee, 18-year-old Kaivon Washington, and a juvenile at the time. All four were arrested.
An affidavit said Brooks was unsteady on her feet as she left the bar with the men, whom she did not know before that night. The men were reportedly going to take her home.
Carver was identified as the driver. He told deputies that when he asked her where she lived, she fell and did not answer. He admitted to stopping the car a short distance from the bar.
The minor and Washington, according to the affidavits, asked her repeatedly to have sex before she consented, while the vehicle was stopped when the men didn’t know where to drop her off. Washington reportedly denied having sex with the victim.
They reportedly left her in a subdivision near where she died about an hour after leaving the bar.
Carver’s trial appearance is scheduled for Dec. 1.
