(KRON) — The San Jose Fire Department and CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit (SCU) say crews are responding to a grass fire in the east San Jose foothills that burned through nearly 100 acres.
The blaze covered 92.3 acres, and officials say forward progress on the fire has now been controlled. The fire has been contained at 60%.
The fire broke out at 4:17 p.m. near Ranch Place and Cliff Drive near Cataldi Park.
“Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the State are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow,” said officials.
Officials had earlier issued an evacuation warning for several zones, saying “immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. The area is lawfully closed to public access.”
At 9:16 p.m. Tuesday, SJFD provided an update on social media that “all evacuated residences can now repopulate, except these addresses on Sierra Road: 3605, 3615, 3625, 3645, 3653, 3680, 3795, 3799.”
The cause of the fire is actively under investigation. There have been no reports of injuries or structures destroyed.
