Jury convicts man for violating domestic violence restraining order: DA

(KRON) – A jury has convicted a man who violated a domestic violence restraining order multiple times, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced Monday.

In December of 2023,  the San Francisco Superior Court issued a domestic violence civil restraining order against 36-year-old Orlando Foster. He was ordered to keep a 100-yard distance away from the protected parties.

The following July, the protected party and her two children were leaving her home when prosecutors say Foster approached her and became verbally aggressive.

A month later, the protected party was visiting family with her kids. She exited her car with her children to unlock a gate, as Foster appeared, standing next to the car. She asked Foster to move away from the car, and in response, he threatened to physically harm and kill her, per prosecutors. She got back in the car and drove off with her children as Foster continued to yell. Multiple witnesses contacted authorities. Foster fled the scene before police arrived.

On March 25 of this year, the DA said Foster was in the vicinity of the protected party, and she immediately called police. Foster fled the scene. Responding officers canvassing the area eventually noticed Foster. He began to run, and a foot pursuit ensued.

Authorities said Foster entered a nearby residence to evade officers. Foster did not leave the residence despite being commanded by officers. The residents of the home permitted officers to enter the home to detain him.

Foster was convicted of making criminal threats, simple assault, two counts of abusing or endangering the health of a child, two counts of disobeying a domestic relations order, and resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.

Foster is currently in custody. His sentencing date is July 1.

“Compliance with restraining orders is not optional,” said Jenkins. “We take these cases seriously as violations of restraining orders are often the precursor to greater violence. Intervening now, and ensuring there is accountability may prevent an escalation or tragedy in the future.”
