(KRON) — A Hayward man succumbed to his injuries 10 days after being struck by a vehicle, authorities announced Tuesday.
Hayward Police Department officers responded on June 5 at 10:32 a.m. to the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Longwood Avenue on the report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 55-year-old Hayward man, was transported to a nearby hospital for his injuries.
The driver, a 62-year-old man, remained at the scene and was uninjured in the collision, police said. According to HPD, the driver was cooperative in the investigation and drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
On Sunday, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The identity of the man is being withheld pending notifications to next of kin and formal identification protocols, police said.
The death marks Hayward’s sixth fatal collision of 2025.
