Garage fire in Rockford displaces family of four due

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockford man was able to escape a fire that started while he was working on his car in his garage, but the fire spread and ultimately caused $50,000 worth of damage.

According to the Rockford Fire Department, firefighters were summoned to the scene in the 1500 block of Kay Street around 6:08 p.m. on Monday.

The fire was mostly contained to the garage, authorities said. The homeowner was able to evacuate himself and his family and pets.

The family of four is unable to return to their home due to damage to the electrical system, officials reported.

No one was injured in the fire.
