Funeral arrangements for fallen CPD Officer Krystal Rivera announced

CHICAGO — Funeral arrangements have been announced for fallen Chicago police Officer Krystal Rivera, who was unintentionally shot and killed by a fellow officer earlier this month.

A visitation will be held on June 24 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, located at 6901 W. Belmont Avenue.

The funeral service will be on June 25 at 12 p.m. at Living Word Christian Center, located at 7600 Roosevelt Road in Forest Park.

25-year-old Adrian Rucker is facing several charges in connection with Rivera’s death, including armed violence, illegal gun possession and illegal drug possession.

On June 5, Sixth District officers with the Chicago Police Department tried to stop a man suspected of having a gun near East 82nd Street and South Drexel Avenue.

Police said the man ran. Rivera and other officers chased him into an apartment where a second man, who police identified as Rucker, confronted them with a rifle.

One officer fired a shot, which hit Rivera. She died at the hospital, less than an hour after being shot.

Those who knew Officer Rivera remembered her as a loving mom who was known for her courage and compassion.
