(KRON) — San Francisco Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey has made another splash in his first season in the role. The Giants are acquiring All-Star slugger Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox in a trade Sunday afternoon, according to multiple reports.
The Giants are sending pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison, along with other assets, to Boston, according to MLB Insider Robert Murray.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan writes that this trade is “an out-of-nowhere blockbuster deal.”
Devers, 28, is a three-time MLB All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger. The designated hitter, a Dominican Republic native, has played his entire nine-year career in Boston. Devers is currently in the second year of a 10-year, $313.5 million contract he signed in 2023.
The Giants (41-30) face archrival Dodgers (42-29) Sunday night in Los Angeles for the final game of a three-game series. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. The teams split the first two games.
San Francisco trails Los Angeles by one game in the NL West standings.
