ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A new neighborhood grocery store, operated by the owner of Olivo Taco, could be coming to 7th Street.
Mahmud Zatar has applied for a liquor and tobacco license to open Olivo Deli Market in the former Discount Cigarettes & Pop Store at 321 7th Street.
Zatar’s application states that the business intends to “cater to the everyday needs of residents and promote the local economy by providing access to essential goods and services.”
The store would operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
The application goes before Rockford’s Liquor and Tobacco Advisory board on Tuesday, June 17th.
Zatar and his brother, Said, started Olivo Taco as a food truck in 2008 and have since expanded to multiple trucks, a brick and mortar restaurant at 330 College Avenue in Rockford, a Belvidere restaurant at 603 S. State Street, the Olivo Doorbuster/Treasure Hunt Deals discount store at Forest Plaza, and Olivo Gaming Bar, at 112 W. Pleasant Street, in Belvidere.
