MORGAN COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — If you’re looking to hook some big fish and summer fun, then look no further than East Canyon State Park, just around the corner from the Wasatch Front.
East Canyon became a state park in 1962 and is a blue ribbon fishery for its high quality fishing experience — and a place that will reel in all kinds of fun on the water. On top of the trout, you can also hook some wipers and small mouth bass from the shore, or from a boat.
“It’s a good place to come and fish early morning before all the wakeboarders come out,” said angler Geoff Hamer. “In the early mornings you can get some really good fishing in.”
A filet of fun is not all that East Canyon offers. The Day Use Beach Area is a family friendly spot to make a splash, easy to get to for rest and relaxation, and to even stay a while.
East Canyon has an international dark sky designation, perfect for stargazing with two different campgrounds to set up shop.
And out of all of our state parks, East Canyon is close to the Wasatch Front and close to our pioneer history. It runs adjacent to the trail traversed by Mormon pioneers trekking toward their future home.
