Port Barre man arrested in connection with murder of Opelousas former Marine

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — An arrest has been made in connection with the death of David Joachin, who was killed in a shooting Wednesday morning, authorities have confirmed.

Jared Wells, 23, of Port Barre, is charged with second degree murder, failure to render aid and possession of firearms or carrying concealed weapon by a convicted felon.

Joachin, 54, of Opelousas, was shot and killed on Jennings Road east of Opelousas just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Wells was arrested by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is being held in the St. Landry Parish Jail. Bond details were not released.
