Alabama inmate dies following ‘significant health issues’

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — An Alabama inmate at Donaldson Correctional Facility died while receiving treatment in the prison infirmary Thursday night.

69-year-old James Charles Bishop, who was serving a life sentence following a murder conviction out of Tuscaloosa County, was found unresponsive in the infirmary around 9:55 p.m. Bishop was receiving care for “multiple significant health issues,” according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

No cause of death has been determined, but foul play is not suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for later Friday to determine the direct cause of death.
