Victim dies after Bayfront Park attack, DA seeks additional charges

(KRON) – The death of a victim in an elderly abuse attack has prompted the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office to file an amendment for additional charges.

The assault occurred in Bayfront Park on May 28. According to the Pinole Police Department, 27-year-old Richmond resident Miguel Patino attacked a man and a woman who were walking their dog.

Patino was charged with aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and elder/dependent adult abuse.

Since his arrest last month, the female victim has passed away. On Friday, the Contra Costa DA filed a motion requesting that Patino’s charges be amended to reflect the victim’s death and elderly abuse, causing great bodily injury to the other victim.

Patino has a court hearing on Wednesday regarding the original charges. However, prosecutors are seeking to focus on the defendant’s impending additional charges.

Prosecutors are also requesting an increase in bail for the defendant. Patino’s bail is currently set at $270,000.
