Two area residents killed in Thursday afternoon crash in Sharp County

Two people from the area were killed last Thursday in a three-vehicle accident in Sharp County. The Arkansas State Police (ASP) have identified the victims as 36-year-old Chance F. Huihui of Horseshoe Bend and 59-year-old Tammy M. Johnson of Sage. Injured in the crash was a 7-year-old girl who was a passenger in Johnson’s vehicle. She was taken to White River Medical Center in Batesville for treatment.

According to the State Police fatal crash summary, the accident happened when Huihui’s vehicle was negotiating a curve and it left the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to reenter the roadway, cross the centerline and strike the rear portion of a second vehicle. Huihui’s vehicle then continued on in the wrong lane of traffic and struck Johnson’s vehicle head-on.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The crash happened on Arkansas Highway 56 in rural Sharp County at 1:10 last Thursday afternoon.
