SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Northbound traffic on State Street in Salt Lake City could see delays over the next 12 hours, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department, due to a break in a water main.

Salt Lake police announced the closure at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9. To allow for crews to investigate and repair the break, the northbound lanes have been closed from Kensington Avenue to 1300 South.

Photos shared from the scene show the roadway suffered extensive damage from the apparent water main break. The asphalt can be seen buckling, separating from the curb, and sending a large crack and dip through the road’s shoulder into the right-most lane.

The Salt Lake City Police Department said early estimates suggest the northbound traffic on State Street in the area could be down to one lane for about 12 hours while crews repair the main.
