Rockford kitchen fire causes $5,000 in damage; no injuries reported

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A fire that started in a kitchen caused an estimated $5,000 in damages to a Rockford home just after midnight on Tuesday.

The Rockford Fire Department said smoke detectors alerted the resident, who lives in the 1500 block of Jackson Street, to the fire.

The resident was able to evacuate the home prior to firefighters’ arrival around 12:36 a.m.

Authorities said the fire was brought under control within 4 minutes, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
