Texas Game Wardens and the Brown County Water Improvement District Lake Patrol responded immediately Sunday evening, launching a multi-hour search involving divers. However, severe weather forced rescue operations to pause overnight. Efforts resumed at 6:30 a.m. Monday, and Massey’s body was recovered just before 8:00 a.m. on June 9.
According to the general manager of the Brown County Water Improvement District, family members said the man was not a strong swimmer and drowned after jumping off a pier. The Blaylock Funeral Home identified him as 26-year-old Tyler Massey of Brownwood.
The Justice of the Peace has ordered an autopsy. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, along with other agencies, is now investigating the incident.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials shared, “Additional details are currently unavailable out of respect for the victim’s family and as we continue our investigation. Our thoughts remain with the man’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
