PHOTOS: 6 horses killed in extra-alarm barn fire in Harvard

HARVARD, Ill. — Six horses were killed after a fire broke out overnight at a barn in unincorporated Harvard.

According to officials, the Harvard Fire Protection District was dispatched around 11:58 p.m. Sunday to the 19100 block of Crowley Road for a fully involved barn fire with animals possibly inside.

Due to the rural setting and limited access to water, the fire was upgraded to an extra-alarm and additional water supplies and manpower were brought in from neighboring departments.

The fire was contained within approximately 60 minutes, officials said.

Six horses inside the barn did not survive. No other injuries were reported.
