OSU pitcher Dax Whitney named to freshman All-American team

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon State pitcher Dax Whitney has been selected to second-team freshman All-America on Monday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) ahead of the Beavers trip to Omaha.

Whitney will be the first Beavers pitcher to make the list since Ryan Brown and Jacob Kmatz in 2022. He heads into the College World Series with a 6-3 record and a 3.66 ERA over 16 appearances.

The Blackfoot, Idaho native struck out 10 or more batters five times this season.

Coming into Oregon State, he was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Idaho by Baseball Northwest and the Idaho Player of the Year in 2024.

The Beavers advanced to their eighth Men’s College World Series over the weekend and will head to Omaha, Nebraska for the tournament beginning on June 13.
