According to a news release from IndyGo, the first major Blue Line construction closure will go into effect beginning on or after June 16. The closure will be along Washington Street, between North White River Parkway and Belmont Avenue, for around six months.
The Blue Line is a 24-mile project that will provide fast and frequent public transportation for one of the main east-west travel corridors in Marion County. According to previous reports, the line will also include access to main destinations in Indianapolis, including:
During the closure, westbound lanes will be closed to through traffic. Westbound drivers will detour around the closure using North White River Parkway, Michigan Street and Holt Road. The release said that eastbound lanes will remain open, so homes and businesses along this portion of Washington Street can be accessed.
IndyGo’s Route 8 will detour around the closure by using North White River Parkway, Michigan Street and Belmont Avenue. Westbound bus stops located in the closure will not be operational. Officials said temporary stops will be located:
During the overall six-month closure, the release said the intersection of Washington Street and Harding Street will close for around two months. Only eastbound traffic will be allowed at the intersection during this time. The following detours are expected to be in place:
