Allegheny County Police said 39-year-old Richard Bruce was charged after he allegedly took money Wednesday from the traveler at Pittsburgh International Airport just before 4 p.m.
A TSA spokesperson said Bruce was placed on administrative leave following charges being filed.
“TSA holds its employees to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, and we do not tolerate behavior that violates these standards or the public’s trust,” the statement reads. “The individual has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities in their investigation of this matter. As this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”
Police said Bruce intentionally took the money during the screening process.
A summons was issued for Bruce on misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
