The Shreveport-Bossier Astronomical Society, Inc. will host “Telescopes on Tap” at Great Raft Brewing. This fundraiser for the Astronomy Society will feature an introductory program, a question-and-answer session, and a trivia contest.
The Astronomical Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study of astronomy. It has been in operation since 1959 and built the Shreveport Observatory in 1964. In 1970, the Society donated the Observatory to the Caddo Parish School Board.
The Society holds public events and presents free public lectures during its monthly meetings. Society members are active in many fields of amateur astronomy, including occultation timing, astrometry, astrophotography, and variable star observation.
“Telescopes on Tap” is on June 12 at 7:30 p.m. Weather allowing, there will be telescope observations.
