Oregon golfer had historic round at U.S. Women’s Open

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon sophomore Kiara Romero made history in the final round of the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open on Sunday with her coach Derek Radley as her caddie.

Romero recorded the best score by an amateur golfer in U.S. Women’s Open history, shooting 5-under (67) with six birdies and only one bogey. This comes after she made UO history this year by becoming the first two-time first-team all-American as a sophomore.

Through the first two rounds, she was able to make the cut, shooting 1-over par.

Despite a rocky third round, Romero recovered and finished with the second-lowest round of the event on Sunday.

She completed the event in a tie for 45th overall and the fourth-best amateur in the field.

The San Jose, Calif. native had an outstanding sophomore campaign taking home the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Year title and first-team All-American honors. She helped the Ducks to the Big Ten Championship and a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships semifinals.
