Dog shot during home invasion in Austin neighborhood, taken to area animal hospital, police say

CHICAGO — A dog was taken to an area animal hospital after being shot during a home invasion late Tuesday night in the Austin neighborhood on the city’s West Side, according to Chicago police.

Police say an unknown offender forcibly broke into a home in the 1100 block of North Waller Avenue around 11 p.m., then took out a gun and opened fire inside the residence.

A dog that was inside was struck by gunfire, according to police, and taken to MetVet Chicago in fair condition. Police say the offender fled the scene after firing shots.

No other injuries were reported, and police say nobody is yet in custody.
