Officers say the deadly crash, which claimed the life of 25-year-old Keyana Meeks, unfolded around 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, in the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue in North Lawndale.
An initial report by police indicated that Meeks was on foot when she was struck by an Acura MDX after the driver allegedly struck a curb while making a left turn.
Photos from the scene show the vehicle involved partially overturned near a building in the area with police tape cordoning off the scene.
Meeks was badly injured in the crash and later died at the hospital, while the driver of the vehicle, an unidentified 21-year-old woman, suffered an injury to her leg.
The driver of the Acura was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment, however, charges against her were never announced.
An update came in the case on Wednesday when police confirmed that the crash is now being investigated as a homicide.
