In May, residents told WJTV 12 News about the issues at Chapel Ridge Apartments. Trash piled up across the complex after dumpsters were removed because the owners stopped payments to their solid waste bill.
City Attorney Drew Martin told the Jackson City Council on June 3 that the owner filed for bankruptcy in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. He said the filing is good and bad news for the city.
“The downside of that is it’s going to stop most of our legal options initially, because there’s a bankruptcy stay that will be automatic. That prevent us from pursuing affirmative legal action on that. The good news is that the federal court, the federal bankruptcy court has appointed a trustee already. And I’ll be speaking with the bankruptcy trustee and urging them to take action,” Martin stated.
The City of Jackson provided the residents of Chapel Ridge with a dumpster to help with the trash problem. Volunteers have also helped residents with the cleanup.
