The stabbing happened around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday on the 200 block of East Illinois in the Streeterville neighborhood.
According to police, the 20-year-old man was walking with a group of people when they were approached by another group and a verbal altercation ensued.
A man in the second group took out a sharp object and damaged a woman’s vehicle, then stabbed the victim in the lower abdomen.
Police said the 20-year-old was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
The offender fled the scene. No one is in custody.
