Reminder: Property taxes due in Winnebago County this week

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The first installment of this year’s property tax bill is due this week, according to the Winnebago County Treasurer’s Office.

The office, located in the Winnebago County Administration Building at 404 Elm Street, will remain open until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 6th.

The office warned that, due to downtown Rockford construction, parking is limited and a one-hour fee at the City Concourse Garage costs $9.

However, Treasurer Theresa Grennan encourages taxpayers to mail in their payments prior to the June 6th due date, or utilize electronic payments at participating local banks or credit unions.

Online payments are also accepted.

A penalty fee of 1.5% per month will be assigned to late payments.

The tax bills were mailed on Friday, May 2nd. A second installment is due on Friday, September 5th.

Home lenders often make automatic tax payments from escrow accounts as part of a mortgage plan.
