Minor earthquake reported in Ozark County

A minor earthquake has been reported in southern Ozark County. The United States Geological Survey says the magnitude 2.2 quake was recorded 1.4 miles west-southwest of Gainesville, Missouri at 2:46 Saturday morning. The location was 18.5 miles north-northwest of Mountain Home.

Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to the epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.

Anyone who felt the quake can let the Geological Survey know on its website.
