Carlos Sanchez-Roa, 28, of Hammond, was shot by police Saturday at around 2:10 a.m. in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue.
CPD was called to the scene of a battery in progress and shots fired at a business in the same block moments prior.
Officers were directed to a red pick-up truck by an employee of the business.
Sanchez-Roa allegedly refused and accelerated in the direction of the officers, hitting one of them.
Police then opened fire on the vehicle, but Sanchez-Roa allegedly kept driving.
He was found shot outside of his vehicle in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue.
Sanchez-Roa was transported by the Chicago Fire Department in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
A condition on the officer who was hit was not provided.
An investigation into the shooting is now underway by Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA).
The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.
Sanchez-Roa was charged with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer.
