TEXARKANA (KTAL/KMSS) – Texarkana says goodbye to beloved hero dog Argus.

The Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) announced that retired police dog Argus passed away on Wednesday, May 28,2025.

Argus served the TTPD for seven years with Sergeant Nick Tirone before retiring in late 2020.

Argus was actively involved in many narcotics and evidence seizures during his career and played a key role in the safe capture of many violent suspects.

The department says Argus had a calming effect in high-pressure situations and contributed to a safer environment for both law enforcement officers and suspects.

In a Facebook dedication, TTPD reflects on his impact when serving the department.

“Argus was a true partner, a protector, and a beloved member of our team. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, loyalty, and service.”
